Course Description

An Introduction to Resilience at Work is all about building personal resilience in our ever changing, uncertain and unpredictable world of work, no matter what size of business you are in.

Whilst this course is centred around work, the skills you'll learn here can also help you in your personal life too.

The aim of this course is to help you to understand and manage your emotions better, so that you can make better decisions, build stronger relationships, harness your creativity and become more resilient.

We often think that you are either a naturally resilient person or you’re not. And if you’re not then you just have to put up with it.

But from both my personal experience and the results achieved by the people I work with, I know that you can teach yourself to be more resilient.

In this course I’ve summarised the 5 key activities that have made the biggest difference to both me and my clients in helping to build the skill of resilience.

These 5 activities make up my 5 steps to less stress, more focus and a happier you!

Outcomes:

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Understand why you get stressed and what happens in the brain when you get stressed
  • Spot your signs that you are stressed so that you can take back control sooner
  • Manage and diffuse your emotions better so you can overcome set backs quicker
  • Challenge your thoughts so you can think more positively and creatively when under pressure
  • Manage your energy more effectively so you can tackle the problems that feel hard to solve
  • List the people who can support you and be clear on the role they play
  • Break old unhelpful habits and create new helpful habits in how you think and behave

Steph, I cannot thank you enough for this course. I started it late one evening and found myself having to complete the course before going to bed. I have never looked into mindfulness before, the skills you shared I put into practice immediately and found that I went to sleep without having to think about my day in so much detail that my mind struggled to relax. “This could not have come at a better time for me as I am halfway through the “Chimp Paradox.” Your course has put the meat on the bones for some of things I have read. Until very recently I have really struggled to move from the emotional brain into the rational. Now I know when I am moving that way and take steps to rethink and manage my emotion. A good example of this for me is road rage! I was terrible but now I have the ability to stop, breath and change or control the emotion (anger). “ Thank you.

I found this a really clearly structure program, to understand what resilience is and isn't, as well as practical steps that absolutely work. With Steph's positive and realistic narration I could relate to someone who's been through what I'm going through. With this being an online course I didn't feel any of the potential stigma about being seen as not resilient enough (aka good enough) so I could relax and take in the concepts and actions. I especially liked the "Manage your energy, not just your time" section as I am 10 times more productive when I'm on it, v's when I'm not. You can go as fast or as slow as you need, to work through the 5 key sessions. I would thoroughly recommend the program to you and all your colleagues and friends who need help bouncing back from life's inevitable setbacks.

I'm loving this course because Steph provides practical advice and guidance throughout as well as normal, day-to-day examples. It means I can apply all the points to my own experiences really easily and then actually see myself thinking and behaving differently. I've been given all this sort of advice before. I've read it in books and I've heard it all. But I've not heard it delivered in such a user-friendly, practical and accessible way. This time, it's different. And this time, I know I can actually start applying it all. I'm really quite excited!

* Easy and sincere style of the instructor (smiling, the small jokes, sharing her own experiences etc) makes the content easier to follow and made me more willing to put the context into the practice. * That was a great real summary. No roundabouts. Clear and direct wording instead. With many other courses, it takes really long tome to come to the point and until then you might easily loose the focus. * I liked the course visually as well. The slides are also easy to read and follow. Small details like the cute frog figure, the font type gives energy.

I cannot recommend this course enough for anyone who feels that they buckle under pressure, not just at work but in any aspect of their life. This course gives so many examples of situations that I can relate to, and straight away I have new strategies and tips on how to understand my emotions, how to manage my energy and ultimately be more accepting of my feelings. Backed with the science and loads of great examples, Steph's really friendly and relatable approach has given me the confidence to break old stressful habits and work towards building new positive approaches to stress. Thank you!!

My husband introduced me to Steph's work when I was at a particularly low point, I'd just been made redundant and was feeling overwhelmed with negative feelings and emotions. I started the 5 steps to less stress and more focus initially to please my hubby, he suggested I try it. First I read the booklet, then I followed the course, through this I began to recognise my worries and stresses for what they were, understand that these were optional emotions that I didn't need to feel them and then learnt simple ways to create positive habits not to "snap out of it" but to accept them for what they were and move on in a positive manner. The link between time and energy was a particular eye opener...................... Thank you Steph!

I liked this course. I liked the worksheets with the course video and I could write as I go - my learning/listening style. I thought it gave lots of help and tips to deal with stress and emotional hijacking - great term. It was in acceptable, bite size chuncks that could be done in quieter moments in my day, whilst working. Great timing with lockdown, causing different stresses and aniexty to our residents, that comes back on us Development Managers. Very worthwhile. Thank you.

I always assumed I was a resilient person. But for me resilience was about not being emotional, not letting things knock you. British stiff upper lip! But I’m not resilient. I know deep down that my “emotional hijack” makes me aggressive towards people and situations at home and at work, even when I think I am not. The truth is if I were resilient I’d be less negative, and less angry. I would have more energy and use it to energise the people around me. You present your course as steps to resilience at work but what I have gained from this is a strong look in the mirror at how I mismanage my emotions. Now I’ve done your course it has given me the kick I needed to start making changes

I wanted to say a huge thank you to Steph. Whilst I have not been able to complete the course in a form of regularity, when I have had the opportunity to sit down and really think about what the course touches on, it has been so helpful. I can't wait to start up my positive notebook and to really start to bring myself out the negative trap. It is also so refreshing to be told that being emotional is ok, as an emotional person it is hard to take when someone tells you, you mustn't be you, the key is to learn how to diffuse it when you are emotionally hijacked and I really think this course has helped me on the way to resilience! Thanks Steph :)
